New Lille direction on Leao future
Lille appear to have softened their stance on selling forward Rafael Leao, giving Everton hope of possibly doing a deal this summer.
The 20-year-old has been on the Toffees’ radar for some time but it was reported back in April that the Ligue 1 side had no intention of parting company with the talented youngster.
The Portugal Under-21 ace has continued to attract interest, although the Goodson Park outfit seemed to be looking elsewhere for new recruits.
However, the Merseysiders will have been put on alert by comments from Lille‘s sporting director Luis Campos, who has told O Jogo in Portugal that a substantial bid might turn the heads of Les Dogues officials.
‘Rafael Leao has a lot of suitors, but it is not our goal to sell him,’ he said.
‘The Portuguese team (at the Under-20 World Cup) made a global exhibition that I consider negative, but in my opinion, Rafael was one of those who were better, he was one of those that managed to stand out a little.
‘If he’s here, better, but if he’s in a different club, that’s fine.
Our idea is to keep him here, but if there are irrefutable proposals, we cannot say no.’
