Derby have announced the signing of England Under-21s international Kieran Dowell on a season-long loan from Everton.

The 21-year-old midfielder becomes Phillip Cocu’s first transfer since replacing Frank Lampard as head coach earlier this month.

Dowell, who won the Under-20 World Cup with England in 2017, joined Sheffield United for the second half of last season and helped the club earn promotion to the Premier League, making 16 appearances and scoring twice.

Cocu told Derby’s official website: ‘I am very happy that Kieran Dowell has chosen to join us on loan for the season.

‘He is an exciting young player with a lot of potential, and I am looking forward to working with him.

‘ The loan spell will be Dowell’s third in the Sky Bet Championship following his temporary switch during the 2017-18 season, where he played 38 times and netted nine goals for Nottingham Forest.
