Bowyer admits to ‘impossible’ Aribo task

Lee Bowyer says Charlton won’t be able to replace Joe Aribo this summer due to the club’s financial constraints.

Aribo played a huge part in getting the Addicks promoted to the Championship last season, scoring 10 goals from 39 League One appearances, and he was offered a new contract at the end of the campaign.

However, the 22-year-old rejected the extension and signed a four-year deal with Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers, who only had to pay a £300,000 development fee to land the midfielder.

Bowyer, who criticised the Englishman’s decision to move to Ibrox, has now revealed there is no chance the club will be able to bring in another player of Aribo’s quality.

‘It’s vital.

But to replace Joe, with the budget we have got, is impossible.

That’s just a fact,’ he was quoted as saying by the Daily Record.

‘We have got to try and get as close as we can to someone with Joe’s qualities and ability as we possibly can.

‘We are constantly on the phone and going through videos.

We are working like you couldn’t imagine – the only time we are not talking about it is when we are sleeping.

‘Even on Wednesday I had a day off but all day I was on the phone going through players that we’ve got on our list.

Can he replace him? Could he bring what he brought? It’s tough.

I knew it was going to be tough.’
