Manchester City midfielder Aleix Garcia is ready to quit and return to Spain due to the first-team path being blocked at the Etihad.

The talented 22-year-old has spent the past two seasons on loan at sister club Girona, having previously made just nine senior appearances for the Citizens.

Girona were relegated from La Liga at the end of last season and it is unlikely he will want to take up the option again, with potential interest elsewhere.

Garcia arrived from Villarreal’s academy in 2016 and there are suggestions his former club could offer him a return to now kick-start his career.

The Spaniard is in the final year of his deal and his advisers want talks with City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain before they head out on tour to China next week.

Guardiola has previously remarked on Garcia’s technical ability but his squad is stacked with midfield quality, so City might be willing to listen to offers of around £3m to make a clean break of things.
