Bruce pushing for Newcastle move
Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce has reportedly handed in his resignation as a move to Newcastle United edges closer.
Corbridge-born Bruce is Newcastle’s number one target to replace Rafael Benitez, who left his position at St James’ Park on June 30, and reports last weekend suggested a deal was close.
However, the Owls are still holding out for more than £1million in compensation, more than the Magpies are willing to pay, and talks are believed to be at a standstill between the parties.
Bruce was quizzed about the speculation on Sunday and told BBC Radio Sheffield: ‘Speculation is speculation.
It’s in the hands of the clubs.
For me, there’s nothing to talk about until the two clubs reach some sort of compromise.
‘ It is now being claimed the 58-year-old has tendered his resignation, which Wednesday have reportedly rejected, along with his assistant Steve Agner and also Stephen Clemence.
