Full-back Joe Maguire joins Accrington on free transfer
Accrington have signed former Liverpool full-back Joe Maguire on a free transfer.
The 23-year-old, who arrives from Fleetwood, has signed a one-year contract with the option of a further year.
He featured in Stanley’s pre-season friendly win against Marseille last week and has been training with John Coleman’s squad, before becoming Accrington’s fourth signing of the summer.
‘Joe is someone I looked at when he was at Liverpool but I did not manage to sign him and he went to Fleetwood,’ Stanley boss Coleman told the club website.
‘His career has been stop-start since then and this is a chance for him to kick on.
He is a talented footballer, he has a great left foot and I am hoping he fights Sean McConville and gets on some of the free-kicks.
‘ Maguire began his career with Liverpool and made one substitute appearance for the Reds in an FA Cup tie against Exeter in January 2016.
He joined Fleetwood a year later but played just 12 times for the Cod Army, finishing last season on loan at League Two side Crawley.
Accrington have also signed midfielder Lamine Kaba Sherif from Leicester on a free transfer.
The 20-year-old has agreed a two-year deal, with Stanley holding an option for a further 12 months should he impress.
Coleman said: ‘Lamine is an exciting prospect, he turned down a couple of offers from foreign clubs as he believes he can make his mark in England.
‘It’s a good fit for both him and for Accrington Stanley.
He is an all-action midfielder, we had a look at him on trial and decided quickly he is for us.’
