Asia Trophy perfect for Nuno
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo feels playing in the Asia Trophy will be of use to his players, with bigger things to follow.
The Molineux outfit have travelled to China to take part in the tournament ahead of next week’s Europa League qualifier.
They will face Newcastle United on Wednesday, with a clash against either Manchester City or West Ham to follow three days later.
It is a change for the West Midlanders, who usually play on the continent prior to the new campaign but, with a European campaign on the horizon, the Portuguese tactician feels it was the correct thing to do.
‘The big difference is the quality of the opponent, no doubt about it and, of course, a different environment,’ Nuno told the club’s official website.
‘Normally we play these kinds of matches in Europe, so there’s a big difference.
The Asia Trophy allows us to really test ourselves.
‘ The players have been training but, due to conditions, sessions have not been too demanding, with game time more of an issue for the manager.
‘It’s tough because of the high level of humidity and it becomes very harsh for the players, but we’re trying to take care of that situation, not to make the sessions very long and give them some time to rest,’ Nuno added.
‘We are here to play, not necessarily to train.
We’re realising it’s been tough for them.’
