Wolves will find it hard to ‘build’ on last season – Jota
Diogo Jota is hopeful Wolves ‘can build’ on last season’s seventh-place Premier League finish but he accepts that it will be ‘hard’.
The 22-year-old Portugal international moved to Molineux from Atletico Madrid in summer 2017 on a season-long loan and helped the side secure promotion to the Premier League via the Championship title with 17 goals in 44 appearances.
Jota’s move to Molineux was made permanent last summer and he then scored nine league goals to help Nuno Espirito Santo’s men secure an impressive top-seven finish and an FA Cup semi-final place.
There is a desire for Wolves to at least repeat that feat, if not go one better, but Jota recognises that will not be an easy task.
Speaking to media in Shanghai, where Wolves are preparing for the Premier League Asia Trophy clash against Newcastle in Nanjing on Wednesday, before facing West Ham or Manchester City back in Shanghai on Saturday, he said: ‘It was a great season but our fans are always expecting more.
‘We need to think it’s possible to build on it but we know how hard it is so we have to keep our feet on the ground and try to build on it.’
