Janmaat expecting ‘tough’ Ajax test
Daryl Janmaat believes Watford will be in for a ‘tough test’ when they take on Ajax in their opening pre-season fixture on Thursday.
The Hornets will face last season’s Champions League semi-finalists as part of their training camp in Austria and Janmaat knows more than most about the Eredivisie champions after playing against them on numerous occasions during his time with the likes of Feyenoord and Heerenveen.
The 29-year-old believes Javi Gracia’s side will be in for a tough evening against Ajax but insists that is exactly what pre-season is all about.
‘It’s a good team that plays with possession, they like to have the ball and they are going to be a tough opponent,’ the Dutch international told the Watford website.
‘We all saw them in the Champions League.
‘They have got some good players.
I know a few from the national team like Huntelaar, Blind and Van de Beek.
They’ve got good players, young players, and a few new ones, so it’s going to be a really tough test for us.
‘ Watford are not taking the easy route during pre-season as they have further matches to come against Bayer Leverkusen, Queens Park Rangers and Real Sociedad before they kick off their new Premier League campaign at home against Brighton on August 10.
