League glory unlikely for Reds – Diouf
El Hadji Diouf doesn’t think Liverpool will win the title this season, saying his former employers ‘missed the chance’ last term.
The Reds came within a whisker of winning the Premier League title for the first time last season, only missing out to Manchester City by one point after the Citizens amassed 98 points.
Liverpool’s tally of 97 points to finish runners-up was a top-flight record and although Jurgen Klopp’s men softened the blow by winning the Champions League, former forward Diouf feels his ex-employers will struggle for league glory this term.
He told The Mirror: ‘They were very good last season.
I don’t think they are going to be able to play like that this season.
They missed the chance to win the title last season, because you know in football every season is different, and if you look at the way they went all out for it last season it will be impossible for them to do it again this season.
‘That level they were last season was an unbelievable level and look at the way they lost it, with a point difference, so we have to be realistic to ourselves.
‘ Liverpool kick off their league campaign at home to Championship winners Norwich City on August 9.
