Portsmouth sign Burton winger Marcus Harness on three-year deal
Portsmouth have signed winger Marcus Harness on a three-year deal from Sky Bet League One rivals Burton.
The 23-year-old scored six goals in his 83 appearances for Albion during his six seasons at the Pirelli Stadium in which he was loaned out to Ilkeston, Aldershot and Port Vale.
Believing he has taken ‘the next step’ in his career, Harness told the Pompey website:’I loved my time there, but sometimes you get opportunities that you just can’t turn down.
‘The fans here are amazing and I remember watching them in the Premier League when I was younger, so this felt like a chance to progress.
‘ Meanwhile, Portsmouth’s League One match against Rotherham has been postponed.
Pompey were due to host the Millers on August 24th but due to a major festival being held in the city, the south coast club asked the English Football League to postpone the game.
A statement on Portsmouth’s official website said: ‘Portsmouth Football Club regret to announce that the League One home match against Rotherham in August has had to be postponed.
‘The club worked hard with the EFL and relevant agencies in trying to accommodate the fixture taking place on the initially scheduled day, originally bringing the kick-off time forward to 12.30pm.
‘But due to the difficulties in hosting two major events in the city on the same day – with Victorious Festival also taking place that weekend – and after safety, operational, logistical and staffing concerns were raised, there was no other option but for the club to ask the EFL to postpone the game.
‘A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.’
