Alvaro makes Marseille loan move
Andre Villas-Boas has made Villarreal’s Alvaro Gonzalez Soberon his first signing at Marseille, bringing in the defender on loan.
Alvaro has made 89 La Liga appearances for The Yellow Submarine since joining the club in 2016 but will spend next season at Stade Velodrome.
His signing will be a relief for Marseille fans who have seen the former Chelsea and Tottenham coach do nothing in the transfer market despite being appointed to the post back in May.
Marseille have included an option to purchase the 29-year-old at the end of the loan deal and issued a statement on their acquisition.
‘European champion with the Spanish U-21 team in 2013, Alvaro Gonzalez is a defensive leader, with a good reading of the game and a solid ability to play in duels,’ it read.
‘His longevity in the Spanish elite against high-level opponents makes him a complete defender.’
