Dyche hails ‘fitter and stronger’ Clarets
Sean Dyche is pleased with how Burnley’s summer is going so far and says his players are ‘fitter and stronger than last pre-season’.
The Clarets have been put through their paces by Dyche and his coaching staff for the past three weeks in preparation for the new Premier League season.
A gruelling training camp in the Algarve was organised for the start of pre-season and was rounded off by a 1-0 behind-closed-doors friendly win over Championship side Fulham.
A friendly double-header this week back home at the club’s training ground against Accrington Stanley and Tranmere Rovers saw Dyche’s first-team squad play one half against each side with an 8-0 win over Accrington recorded alongside a narrow 3-2 defeat against Rovers.
The players have been working hard in training and in the practice matches and Dyche says they are in better shape than this time 12 months ago.
The boss said: ‘So far, all the data we have got from the GPS vests and testing has shown the lads are all fitter and stronger than last pre-season.
Everything supports that.
‘All the lads look sharp.
‘ In summer 2018, the Clarets were involved in Europa League qualifiers but they do not have that distraction this time around and Dyche has suggested that will help them when the main action begins on August 10 against Southampton.
He added in the Burnley Express: ‘The main thing for us has been a clearer pre-season, with no Europa League this year, and hopefully that will help us after our first real tough year in terms of injuries.
‘This is really the end of the really heavy work phase, and then we start building more into the football planning.’
