Hause ready for starting battle at Villa
Centre-back Kortney Hause says he is ready to battle for a starting spot at Aston Villa this season.
Former England Under-21 international Hause spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and, after the club earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, his move was made permanent for a reported £3million.
The 24-year-old is one of four centre-backs to be signed by manager Dean Smith this summer, joining Bjorn Engels, Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa in the ranks, and competition for a starting spot is set to be fierce.
James Chester has also returned to full fitness, leaving five defenders to fight for two places, and Hause is looking forward to the challenge of trying to cement his place in the starting XI.
‘We’ve got five centre-backs and we only play with two, so it’s going to be tough,’ he told the Express and Star.
‘But it’s just a case of having tunnel vision.
You’ve got to do your own thing and hopefully, that’s enough to get picked by the manager.
‘It’s good competition, it keeps everyone on their toes.
There’s competition everywhere in life if you want to be at the top.
It’s to be expected.
Of course you’ve got to back yourself.
I wouldn’t be where I am if I didn’t believe in myself or didn’t back myself.’
