Midfielder Edwards joins Burton
Midfielder Ryan Edwards has signed a two-year deal with Burton – just two months after scoring for Hearts in the Scottish FA Cup final.
Edwards’ move is subject to international clearance but should not pose an issue given he has spent the last four years playing in Scotland, initially with Partick, then Hearts, as well as spending a period on loan with St Mirren.
The 25-year-old from Sydney has been signed following the departure of Jamie Allen to Coventry, and with Ben Fox ruled out for the majority of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in a recent friendly at Matlock.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Brewers boss Nigel Clough said: ‘He wants an opportunity to play in England, and he’s a good age now to come down after the experience he has had up in Scotland.
‘He played in the Scottish Cup final against Celtic a couple of months ago, so he played at that level in that kind of game.
He’s a good fit for us.
‘ Edwards, who scored the opening goal in that match but ended up on the losing side, said:’Nigel Clough made a real positive impression on me and wanted me down here as quickly as possible.’
