Burton midfielder Fox undergoes surgery on anterior cruciate ligament
Burton midfielder Ben Fox has undergone successful surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament.
The 21-year-old sustained the injury in a recent friendly at Matlock and has been ruled out for the majority of the new season.
As he begins his road to recovery, Fox posted a photograph from his hospital bed showing thumbs up on his Twitter account on Wednesday evening.
He wrote: ‘A step in the right direction today with a successful ACL reconstruction surgery complete.
‘Feeling positive on what the future holds, thank you for all the messages of support.
‘ Fox made his Championship debut for the Brewers in a 1-0 defeat to Brighton in September 2016 and opened his scoring tally 11 months later in an EFL Cup tie against Cardiff.
He is likely to be sidelined until March 2020.
Boss Nigel Clough told the club’s website last week: ‘Mentally and physically it is a big challenge for Ben.
‘But he’s a level headed lad and that will help and the changing room he has around him.
Everybody, staff and players, will pull together and get him through.
‘March is a long way away but that’s his target to try and get back on the pitch.’
