German loan chance came last winter for Ostigard
Leo Ostigard has revealed that St Pauli tried to sign him last winter as he bids to impress during his season-long loan with the club.
The 19-year-old central defender has linked up with his new team-mates at the Hamburg-based club and admitted he could have been part of their Bundesliga 2 campaign last term.
‘Already last winter, St.
Pauli was interested in me,’ said the Norwegian in his first interview with media representatives in Hamburg.
St Pauli had proposed a six-month loan deal in the January transfer window but eventually took Justin Hoogma from Hoffenheim to replace Philipp Ziereis, who had suffered a cruciate ligament injury.
Ostigard joined up with the squad on Monday last week and played as a trialist in their friendly against Flensburg 24 hours later.
‘I want to play in a first team now,’ he added.
‘When you play in Norway, you have to decide early on whether you want to play in a strong European league.
Once you are 25, it will be difficult to get out of Norway again.’
