Loaned out keeper wants eventual return
Christian Walton wants to play in goal for Brighton one day, but his loan to Blackburn suits him currently.
On Tuesday, the 23-year-old former England under-21 international was snapped up by Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn on a season-long loan deal.
It is the seventh separate loan spell that Walton has had away from the AMEX Stadium and he has only ever figured four times in the Seagulls’ first team, with his last appearance coming in the 2014-15 season.
Despite his ambition being to one day play for the number one shirt at Brighton, Walton feels he will benefit from another year in the second tier.
He said: ‘I’m delighted that the move has come around pretty quickly — I’ve had a good three weeks back at Brighton training and showing what I can do for the new manager.
‘It was a level playing field, but for my development and own progression, I feel like another season playing games in a Championship environment at a good level is beneficial.
‘My aim is to come back and compete for the number one shirt at Brighton.
‘I know the area; I was settled at Wigan and it should be an easy transition moving here.
I have no problems with the location and I’m just looking forward to getting started now.’
