Real duo remain in Zidane’s plans for now
Zinedine Zidane insists that Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez are members of his Real Madrid squad but could not guarantee how long for.
The controversy over the future of Bale has been played out throughout the summer, with the Welshman appearing to be well out of favour with Zidane.
The winger remains at the Bernabeu for now after a move to China fell through, and it could stay that way unless a club like Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain come in for him.
Rodriguez, who has not figured at all in pre-season, has been linked with a move to Serie A side Napoli, but again, a move has not gone through and he remains in Madrid.
While that is the case, Zidane, who was speaking after the 2-2 draw with Roma on Sunday, says both players are members of his squad and can be called upon at any time.
“James and Bale are players of the squad,” Zidane told reporters after the match in Rome which Real lost on penalties. “They are both registered, but anything can happen and I, as a coach of Real Madrid, must count on them.
“I count on them 100 per cent. James has not been summoned [to the squad recently], but this can change. Even before the end of the transfer window, everything can happen.”
