Bhoys to miss out on defensive target

Strahinja Pavlovic

Celtic look set to miss out on defender Strahinja Pavlovic as he edges closer to a move to Italian outfit Lazio.

Bhoys boss Neil Lennon has been targeting defensive reinforcements all summer after losing a huge chunk of his backline over the summer.

He has already enjoyed some success in the market with Christopher Jullien, Boli Bolignoli-Mbombo, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Leo Hjelde arriving at Parkhead.

But Lennon is not satisfied with his options just yet and wants to snap up Partizan Belgrade’s Pavlovic before the transfer window shuts on September 2.

Lennon travelled to watch the Serbia Under-19 international in action against Connah’s Quay Nomads last month and was ready to press on in pursuit of a deal.

However, reports claim Serie A side Lazio have entered the race and are on the verge of luring Pavlovic, who was previously a target for Juventus, to the Stadio Olimpico.

It’s understood a deal in the region of £4.5million could be concluded this week and Lennon will need to focus his attention elsewhere.
