Gerrard full of praise for Gers youngster

Rangers summer signing Joe Aribo admits he has studied the games of Yaya Toure and Patrick Vieira after being likened to the midfield pair.

Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Rangers forward Joe Aribo after a stunning performance against East Fife on Sunday.

The 23-year-old joined the Scottish outfit from Charlton over the summer and he has already made a good impression on Gerrard.

Aribo scored on his full debut against St Joseph’s in the Europa League and has since gone on to add a further three goals to his tally, including one in the 3-0 triumph at East Fife over the weekend.

The forward had a big influence on the game as a whole to help Rangers through to the third round of the Betfred Cup.

Gerrard singled Aribo out for high praise following their trip to Methil and feels he has all the attributes to become a star of the future.

“He was outstanding from start to finish. He has four goals in eight games, but it isn’t just about that, it is about your all-round performances.” Gerrard said.

“Top players turn up anywhere. It doesn’t matter if it is in front of 50,000 or 1,500, your standards are always the same, and from day one Joe has done that.

“He was all over the pitch and covered every inch. He got his goal, he put in a tackle in the 85th minute when we were 3-0 up and he did everything right for us.

“Aribo can go as far as he wants. I hope he stays alongside me for many years, but he’s got the world at his feet.

“Joe has got so many attributes. It’s okay having them, but if you also have the right mentality and character you can go as far as you want to go.”
