Simone plays down title talk
Diego Simeone played down Atletico Madrid’s title chances after a last-gasp victory fired them clear at the top of La Liga.
Thomas Partey netted a late winner in the 3-2 victory over Eibar on Sunday, a result which maintained their 100 per cent start to the season and took them two points clear of both Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla.
After what has been a sluggish start to the campaign for Spain’s giants, Real Madrid are already four points off the pace with Barcelona a further point behind.
However, Simeone was clear he wanted to dampen expectations after the Eibar success.

Asked about being potential champions, the Atleti boss said: “No, there’s a lot of new people in the team, we are rebuilding.
“A lot of new players are getting used to our system, to the way that we work and we need to win, win, win another time. We have three new defenders this season and there is a lot of responsibility on my shoulders, eight players left, eight new ones have come in.
“Everybody is very excited but we have to stay quiet and work.”
