Van der Hoorn hails Swans’ team spirit
Swansea centre-back Mike van der Hoorn says the togetherness of the squad explains their excellent start to the new season.
Steve Cooper’s men top the Championship table following the conclusion of the first month after a very impressive smash-and-grab 1-0 away win at Elland against fellow promotion hopefuls Leeds on Saturday.
Wayne Routledge’s late strike punished some sloppy defending to ensure that the Welsh side sit top and unbeaten after six games – winning five of them.
It means that Cooper has made the best start of any Swans boss in the club’s history, after their two wins in the Carabao Cup as well.
Three of their wins involved them coming from behind and Van der Hoorn says their resilience explains why they have made such a quick start to the season, despite losing key figures Oliver McBurnie and Dan James during the summer.
“The team spirit has been the key factor to our fantastic start,” he said.
“If we didn’t have that then we would have collapsed at Leeds because they created a lot of chances.
“We just stuck together and got our reward.
“The subs came off the bench and made a difference because they brought a lot of positive energy to the side.”
