Defender holds his hands up for Juve

Juventus have reportedly been instructed to pay £67million to Ajax if they want to sign defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Juventus’ new signing Matthijs de Ligt has admitted he should have done better with all of Napoli’s goals at the weekend.

Juventus won the match 4-3 in what was a goal-laden thriller in Serie A, but De Light came in for a lot of criticism after the game for Juve’s defending and he has admitted he could have done a lot better in defence.

Ronald Koeman defended his centre-back on Monday, stating that, in his option, De Ligt was only at fault for one of the goals, scored by Hirving Lozano.

Speaking to Voetbal International, De Ligt said on his debut, “It’s not really about what others think, or what I think. Whether it was big mistakes or small ones, I know I could have done better with all three goals. I don’t look at others and put it on myself, I will always do that.

“Of course there are things that are different from what I am used to, but I will have to get used to that. With a free kick we all walk back on the same line at the same time. I walked back later, so I’ll have to adjust things like that.”

He added: “It was a pity, but there are fifty games to come. Ultimately I deal with this as I always deal with it. I look at the points that were less and the points that could be better. I think I just played a great game for sixty minutes, then things came that I know I should have done better.

So I will do that differently in the next matches.”
