Gibbs-White ready to take his chance at Wolves

Midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White believes he will get his chance at Wolves as the club try to compete on four fronts this season.

The West Midlands outfit enjoyed a superb return to the Premier League last season as they finished seventh under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Their reward was a place in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League, with their campaign starting in July against Crusaders.

Wolves have since beaten Pyunik and Torino so their fans are now looking forward to the group stage which starts on September 19.

Like their predecessors, Wolves have struggled to handle the extra fixtures and their domestic form has dipped as a result. Nuno’s men are 17th in the Premier League table after the first four matches yielded three draws and one defeat.

Goal difference is keeping them out of the bottom three but Gibbs-White could soon find himself in the first-team picture.

The 19-year-old has only made one appearance this season and believes more game time is around the corner.

He told the Express & Star: “Of course, you can’t keep the same XI for every single game. It gives you the incentive to work harder, try and impress more.

“If you impress in these cup games, you’re a contender for the league games, and that’s what you want – to play in the Premier League. The main thing is to impress the manager as I want to get in that starting XI every week.”

Gibbs-White made 21 appearances off the bench last season, while he was given a chance to start on five occasions.

He has impressed in Europe so far and Nuno’s small squad are going to be pushed all the way this season.

They were drawn against Sporting Braga, Besiktas and Slovan Bratislava but their immediate attention will be on Saturday’s league meeting with Chelsea.

Wolves are unbeaten in 11 at home in the league but Chelsea come into the game in good form, having gone three games without defeat.
