De Bruyne taking R & R

Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne has been allowed to catch some sun in the UAE ahead of Sunday's derby clash at Manchester United.

The Manchester City midfielder is suspended for Wednesday’s final Champions League group game against Shakhtar Donetsk, having picked up his fourth yellow card in the competition last month at home to Feyenoord.

Pep Guardiola’s men are already confirmed as group winners and his staff felt it was a good time for De Bruyne to get away with his young family and rest until later in the week.

The Belgium international has looked jaded in recent games after proving to be the stand-out player in the Premier League during the first-half of the campaign, scoring five goals and managing 10 assists.

It is believed the 26-year-old will also carry out some promotional work while away before returning to Manchester on Friday to prepare for the huge trip to face Jose Mourinho’s side at Old Trafford.

De Bruyne scored in the corresponding fixture last season – which City won 2-1 – the last time the Red Devils’ tasted a defeat of any sort on their own turf.
