Hearn explains Joshua-Klitschko hold up

Eddie Hearn says a fight between his star Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko is being held up due to a belt not being at stake.

A fight between the two man mountains has been penciled in for December 10 at the Manchester Arena but as yet there is no world title at stake unless the WBA step in and make one available.

The two fighters have submitted requests for the organisation to sanction the fight, with the WBA title vacated by Tyson Fury to be up for grabs.

Promoter Hearn is hopeful a deal can soon be reached with the sport’s governing body and then the mouthwatering contest in Manchester can be given the green light before Christmas.

He told Sky Sports: “The deal is there but we are awaiting sanctioning from the WBA. Both teams have written to the WBA to request sanctioning of our fight, but Wladimir wants the WBA belt to be on the line so until that is approved we cannot move forward.

“We expect news in the next few days, but in the meantime I believe both sides will look at alternative options for December 10 while we hope to get the news we need to make the fight happen.”
