Moyes talks up defender impact

Sunderland boss David Moyes says January signing Joleon Lescott has made a big impact in the dressing room.

The 34-year-old was signed by Moyes in January off the back of an unsuccessful spell in Greece with AEK Athens.

Lescott, who has only played just over an hour of football with Sunderland, was drafted in as cover for John O’Shea, Lamine Kone and Papy Dijlobodji.

Despite not featuring heavily, Moyes feels his experience and leadership qualities have helped to boost the squad.

Moyes said: “Joleon’s had a massive impact on the dressing room because he’s a leader, a really good organiser when he’s on the pitch.

“He’s an experienced player, he knows a lot of them as well and he’s had a big impact on the dressing room.

“That in itself is important. Sometimes it’s off the field where you see the impact, not on it.”
