Petrov downplays Euro hopes

Bolton Wanderers

Martin Petrov feels it is too soon to talk about Bolton's chances of qualifying for Europe but he is pleased with the campaign so far.

The Wanderers winger revealed there is a great atmosphere amongst the players at the Reebok and Petrov believes if the club keep taking one game at a time they can continue to impress in the Premier League.

Bolton are currently seventh in the table, which may be enough to secure a spot in the Europa League at the end of the season if the League Cup and FA Cup are won by teams in the top five.

However, Petrov feels it is too soon to talk about the Wanderers chances of playing in Europe next season but the Bulgarian international believes if the squad retain their focus anything could be possible for Owen Coyle’s high-flying side.

“We must concentrate because nothing is finished,” Petrov told the Bolton News. “We have 20 games left yet. But if we carry on going like this we will be okay.

“It’s too early to start talking about Europe. But no one expected Bolton to be in seventh place at Christmas.

“We must concentrate for every game. All we are thinking about is the next match against West Brom; not towards Chelsea or Liverpool.

“When we work like this, game to game, then we will do well.

“We don’t have many big star names like other teams who spend too much money.

“We have one team, one family. It’s hard, of course, but we are a team and that is the important thing.”
