Guardiola welcomes back De Bruyne for Arsenal clash
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed Kevin De Bruyne is fit to face Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.
De Bruyne was a major part of the Belgium side that reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, losing out to eventual winners France, and there were doubts whether he would be fit enough to play after being given an extended time off.
However, Guardiola has confirmed the 27-year-old has returned to the defending Premier League champions in ‘perfect condition’ and will be in the squad to face Unai Emery’s Arsenal.
The Spanish tactician also revealed England international Raheem Sterling, who was part of Gareth Southgate’s side that also made it to the last-four stage of the World Cup, is back in training and is available to face the Gunners.
City’s club record signing Riyad Mahrez is set to make his first Premier League appearance for the club after making the switch from Leicester City, whilst left-back Benjamin Mendy could start his first league game since September 2017, when he suffered a cruciate ligament injury against Crystal Palace.
Argentine Sergio Aguero is expected to get the nod up front after bagging both goals in the 2-0 win over Chelsea in the Community Shield.
