Nelson expected to miss Sheffield trip

Reiss Nelson has reportedly been ruled out of Arsenal's Premier League clash at Sheffield United on October 21 after picking up a knee injury.

Nelson, who was forced to pull out of the recent England Under-21 squad, has been suffering with a knee issue for the past few weeks and he is set to spent a little longer on the sidelines.

The 19-year-old forward, who made 23 appearances while on loan at Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim last season, has been a regular squad member for Arsenal this term.

Unai Emery has used the Englishman in four Premier League games while he has also featured in the EFL Cup and Europa League this season, taking his appearances in all competitions to six.

Arsenal return to domestic action on October 21 when they make the trip to Sheffield United but that encounter is expected to come too soon for Nelson, who is being pencilled in for a November return.

His absence will come as a blow to the Gunners but there is some good news ahead of the South Yorkshire trip, with France international Alexandre Lacazette ready to make his comeback.

The 28-year-old striker, who was linked with a move to Russia in the summer transfer window, has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on September 1.

Emery is set to welcome back Lacazette and there is also good news regarding midfielder Dani Ceballos, who did require an MRI scan on a hamstring injury while on international duty.

However, the on-loan Real Madrid star recovered in time to start Spain’s 1-1 draw on Saturday and he is expected to start against the Blades, who drew 0-0 against Watford in their last game before the international break.

Monday’s encounter will be the first meeting between these two sides since they met in the EFL Cup in 2008, when Arsenal romped to a 6-0 victory on home soil. Former striker Carlos Vela bagged a hat-trick on that occasion.
