The Gunners’ talisman has been heavily linked with a return to the club he started his career with as a youngster since last summer.
And, while boss Arsene Wenger managed to hold onto Fabregas on that occasion, the 24-year-old Spanish international has looked increasingly likely to return to the Catalan giants following a seven-year stint with the north Londoners.
Arsenal have already snubbed three firm offers from Barca for Fabregas as they won’t drop their £40million valuation, while Wenger remains reluctant to lose the midfield playmaker with less than a week before the new Premier League campaign gets underway with a trip to Newcastle.
However, with the French tactician claiming Fabregas, who missed the pre-season trip to face Benfica in Portugal due to an injury which is also set to sideline him for the trip to Tyneside, is still a big part of his plans for the new season, it appears the player is now pushing hard to make the move.
Reports on Sunday claim Fabregas will agree to waive £4million worth of bonuses in his Arsenal contract in order to return to the Nou Camp.
And Barca custodian Valdes says Pep Guardiola’s squad are confident they will be bolstered by the arrival of Fabregas before the transfer window closes on August 31.
“We expect to see Cesc in the Barca dressing room soon,” he said in The People.
“The players want him to come because he is a big friend and an extraordinary footballer.”
