The former Borussia Dortmund scout – nicknamed Diamond Eye in Germany for his uncanny ability to spot talented young players before his counterparts at other clubs – will join the Gunners as part of a major revamp of the club’s recruitment department in 2018.
Dortmund duo Shinji Kagawa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang plus Ousmane Dembele, who was sold to Barcelona for £97million in the summer, are among his shrewdest acquisitions and Mislintat knows expectations will be high in north London for him to turn up more unpolished gems.
“Going by the press in England and Germany, they expect me to sign a Dembele in each transfer window,” said the 45-year-old. “I’m being put on an incredibly high pedestal.”
