Race hots up for Gunners target

Arsenal face strong competition for Bordeaux star Malcom as reports claim the Brazilian will join Bayern Munich in the summer.

The 20-year-old is one of the most sought after players in Europe at the moment as he continues to shine for the French outfit and Arsene Wenger is in the hunt.

Wenger sees Malcom as an alternative to Thomas Lemar and made a move to sign the winger in the January transfer window, but Bordeaux refused to sell as they face a battle to stay in Ligue 1.

They are likely to cash in during the summer though with boss Gus Poyet virtually admitting defeat already, and Arsenal will be back in the hunt to do a deal.

“He is a special player who can win matches on his own. He is often double-marked because his talent is that special,’ he said. “In January we were nervous because we almost lost him to the Premier League. We must prepare for this because sooner or later he will leave.”

However it is now claimed that Bayern Munich have entered the race as they see Malcom as the ideal long-term replacement for Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, and are favourites to do a deal.
