Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has demanded a fast start when they return to Premier League action after the international break.

Nyland made his Premier League debut with Villa on Sunday as fell to a 2-1 defeat to Midlands rivals Wolves at Molineux.

The 29-year-old, who made 23 appearances during their promotion winning campaign from the Championship, was drafted in to replace number one Tom Heaton.

Dean Smith had to leave summer signing Heaton out of the matchday squad due to a calf injury but he is expected to be back in the starting XI after the international break.

Unfortunately for Nyland, it wasn’t the dream debut in the top-flight as Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez scored either side of half time to cancel out Trezeguet’s late effort.

Villa were second best in the first half and could arguably have been three of four goals down if it wasn’t for the heroics of Nyland.

The Norwegian felt their performance in the opening 45 minutes fell well below par and admitted it was always going to be difficult to claw their way back into the clash.

But he has challenged his teammates to make a better start to their next outing which comes on November 25 against relegation rivals Newcastle at Villa Park.

Nyland said: “The rest of the season we have to make sure we start bright, right from the kick-off and not give the opposition goals and the advantage. On Sunday, we started the game too late.

“We all agreed at half-time we needed to go out and show a better side than we did that in the first-half. I think we did that and we can definitely take that with us into the next couple of games.”

Sunday’s defeat at Wolves leaves Villa sitting just one place and three points clear of the drop zone and in desperate need of a win against the Magpies.
