Baggies on trail of teenage defender

Premier League

West Brom are tracking teenage Stevenage defender Ben Wilmot, but face stiff competition from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Scouts from all three Premier League clubs, plus Aston Villa and Brentford, reportedly attended Stevenage’s League One clash with Carlisle United on Saturday.
Although it is not known which clubs were watching Wilmot, the 18-year-old did his chances of earning a move to a bigger club no harm at all in the 0-0 draw.
Tottenham were last week reported to have agreed a deal with Stevenage for the player, who is valued at £850,000.
But a transfer has yet to go through, which seems to have put a host of other clubs – including the Baggies – on high alert.
The teenager made only his second League One start of the season on Saturday but he did play the 90 minutes twice in their recent FA Cup third-round tie against Reading – the former club of Albion technical director Nicky Hammond.
