Bournemouth
Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says Asmir Begovic deserved to be recalled after he was selected ahead of Artur Boruc at Leicester.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is remaining tight-lipped on who will start in goal for the Cherries against Sheffield United.

The Cherries begin their Premier league campaign when the newly-promoted Blades visit the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and Howe will be looking to get off to a good start after he strengthened his squad over the summer.

Howe has four keepers, Mark Travers, Aaron Ramsdale, Asmir Begovic and Artur Boruc, all pushing to start between the sticks and all of them, at different times over the summer, have been handed their chance in pre-season games.

Howe says competition among his keepers has been fierce and he will not reveal who is going to get the nod.

The manager has made a number of additions to the squad over the summer although not all will feature straight away.

Lloyd Kelly picked up an injury in training and will be out of action for what Howe hopes to be weeks not months, but he will not feature on Saturday.

Harry Wilson is also not expected to be involved because Howe admits they are yet to see enough of him in training to throw him into the first XI.

Defenders Steve Cook and Charlie Daniels are on the mend after injuries in pre-season and the boss says both will be fit to play in the opening game, having got useful minutes under their belts in the final warm-up matches.

Howe said: “I’d say they’re fully fit, I’d have no problems with playing them.”

The Cherries boss says that when everyone is fit at the club, he believes he has the strongest squad ever assembled at Dean Court ,and he is looking forward to the new campaign although he admits the proof will be in their results.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder brings his promoted outfit to the south coast after making no less than 10 new additions this summer.

The latest of those was Everton’s Mo Besic, who arrived on loan on transfer deadline day, but whether or not he plays on Saturday remains to be seen.

Club-record signing Oliver McBurnie is expected to start and former Cherries player Lys Mousset could also get the nod.

The former French Under-21 star joined the Bramall Lane outfit for a reported £10m after a frustrating spell with Bournemouth, where the 23-year-old netted five goals in 71 appearances.
