Brighton boss Graham Potter has praised the intelligence of Seagulls midfielder Pascal Gross, who is set for a more attacking role.

Gross has been pushed into a more forward position in the pre-season games, where he has played just behind frontman Glenn Murray, and he scored in the recent friendly against Fulham.

Potter believes he will thrive in the role and says there is still room for him to get further forward as the squad starts to buy into his new way of thinking.

Potter told the Argus: ‘I thought he got into spaces quite well.

He is that type of player.

He’s intelligent and his game understanding is good.

‘It’s just the final bits around decision-making in the final third which we all have to improve with.

But that would be normal I think where we are at now.

‘ Potter added: ‘We have tried to work with a few things around how we build our attacks and how we are reacting when we lose the ball and also how we try to set up defensively.

‘Three weeks in, the attitude and the effort has been brilliant from the players.

I am really positive about them and we just need to keep working and improving.’
