Hughton – We must respond

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Chris Hughton has urged his players to bounce back after their disappointing 5-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

The Seagulls were hoping to make a statement at the Amex Stadium but they were left embarrassed as the Reds ran riot in the Premier League clash.

Glenn Murray’s goal was merely a consolation effort in the end and now Hughton is looking for a response ahead of the game against Huddersfield Town.

The former Norwich and Newcastle coach insists his troops are in for a tough few days in training after their heaviest defeat at the Amex since 2011.

When asked about his expectations, Hughton insists the squad must show the fans they mean business.

He told The Argus: “They will react the way they have to react. It will be a tough few days. We’ve had a good few weekends and there is always that nice feel once you’ve had a win or a draw.

“I know we have lost this season, but this is our first big one, so it will be a different feeling. But the players have firstly got to realise the reason why we lost the game the way we did and try to rectify it.

“You can lose to a Liverpool, because of the quality they’ve got, and, irrespective of what anyone says, if you are able to beat any of the top six it’s a real bonus, but what you don’t want is to beaten big and we have.”
