Defour’s agent reveals Chinese lure

Steven Defour's agent has refused to rule out a future move to China for the player, who returned to the Clarets' line-up on Saturday.

The Belgium international was named in Sean Dyche’s starting line-up for the first time in three weeks on New Year’s Eve as Burnley thrashed relegation-threatened Sunderland 4-1.

But he could find his place under further threat when the club re-sign Joey Barton later this month, with a deal agreed in principle to bring the Merseysider back from a rocky spell at Rangers.

Defour’s agent, meanwhile, has spoken about the prospect of his clients joining football’s fastest gravy-train in the Far East with clubs in the Chinese Super League targeting more players in Europe.

“China? Why not,” agent Paul Stefani told Nieuwsblad.

“If you play three seasons there, you will never have to work again, it’s a wonderful experience, there are stars and the interest is growing.”
