The Spain international has been a revelation ever since he arrived at Stamford Bridge, but he has moved on to another level again under the leadership of Conte.
The 28-year-old did not miss a minute of Chelsea’s Premier League-winning campaign last term and has also got this season off to a flyer, playing a crucial role in Conte’s back three.
Azpilicueta even got on the scoresheet in Tuesday night’s 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag in the Champions League, and Conte could not be happier with every aspect of the player’s game.
“Last season Azpi was one of the most important players for us,” the Italian said. “In this position as a central defender he is one of the best in the world. He is very good with and without the ball.
“He’s a fantastic guy, he’s always positive, and during the training sessions he works in a fantastic way. For a coach to have him is a dream.”
