Pepe on Chelsea radar

Real Madrid defender Pepe says he wants to see out his career at the Bernabeu following reports linking him with Chelsea.

The 33-year-old is due to fall out of contract with Real at the end of the season, and although talks over a new one have started, rumours suggest all is not well.

Real are only willing to offer the Portuguese international a new one-year deal, but the player is holding out for at least two years and could move on unless he gets it.

Reports are now rife that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte could swoop to sign the player, who will be free to talk to other clubs from Januaray, and is likely to weigh up his options then if the dispute with Real cannot be solved.

“I am calm. I want to help Madrid, the club I love,” he told Antenna 3. “I am at peace.

“I hope the club call me first to resolve this [contract] situation. I am calm, people in the club know that this is my home. I have already said that I expect to be with Madrid until the last second [of his career].

“My goal is to retire here.”
