Palace linked with Inter misfit

Crystal Palace
Flamengo have officially confirmed they have signed Inter striker Gabriel Barbosa on loan and he will stay there until December.

Crystal Palace have been linked with a surprise winter move for Inter Milan flop Gabriel Barbosa.

The 23-year-old has been on the Nerazzurri’s books since 2016 after making a big-money move from Brazilian club Santos, but he has made just 10 appearances in all competitions.

He was sent out on loan to Portuguese giants Benfica in the summer of 2017 although he played just one top-flight match as the deal was cut short.

The man capped five times by Brazil was then shipped back to his homeland in January 2018 and flourished on loan with former club Santos, scoring 27 goals in 53 appearances, while he has so far bagged 32 from 44 outings at Flamengo after switching Brazilian clubs in January of this year.

It appears Barbosa is much more at home playing South American football and it is unlikely he has a future with Inter, but that has not stopped rumours that the Eagles are keen.

He is still young and when on form clearly has an eye for goal, so it may just be that he needs the right club and manager to bring the best out of him in the northern hemisphere.

Whether that is Palace and Roy Hodgson only time will tell, but the south London club’s strong start to the campaign will certainly be a draw for a player hoping to make his mark in Europe.

He is due to return to Inter in January although a report by Passione Inter suggests the Serie A giants will look to move him on straight away and Selhurst Park may be his next destination.

It has been said that the capital outfit are willing to match an asking price of around £26m, with Hodgson keen to add a goalscorer to his ranks after watching his charges bag just eight times from as many Premier League games this term.
