Everton v Sheffield Wednesday team news
Everton boss Marco Silva is set to ring the changes as his side look to get back to winning ways against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Toffees will see Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie as a welcomed distraction after back-to-back defeats in the Premier League to Bournemouth and Sheffield United.
Everton conceded five goals in those two ties and Silva is under pressure after spending heavily in the summer.
Alex Iwobi, Moise Kean, Andre Gomes, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Fabian Delph, Djibril Sidibe and Jonas Lossl all joined the club in the off-season.
A number of those players could feature in midweek, with Sidibe, Delph, Iwobi and Kean all starting the last round against Lincoln City.
Gomes is unavailable this week due to a rib injury, while Gbamin is also out with a quadriceps problem. Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin will make his 100th appearance for Everton, should he feature at Hillsborough.
Owls coach Garry Monk also has an injury problem to contend with as captain Tom Lees continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
The former Leeds United man has missed the last three league games, and Monk is not willing to risk him. Sam Winnall has impressed off the bench in recent weeks, and he could start upfront, in place of Steven Fletcher.
Tuesday’s meeting is the first between the pair since September 2007. Everton won that League Cup meeting 3-0, but Silva has urged his team to step up to the challenge after a tough few weeks.
“It is not the moment for anyone to hide,” Silva said.
“I said it inside the dressing room, too (after the Sheffield United defeat) there is nowhere we can hide, we have to show stronger character, personality.
“It is a moment for us to go and play football and to take responsibility as well… I am always here for our fans, I will not hide, no one can hide.”
“We have to be strong, we want to go to the next round, so that is what we want, a reaction in this game.”
