Palace without Meyer for Fulham trip
Summer arrival Max Meyer will not be involved in Crystal Palace’s Premier League opener against Fulham on Saturday.
Germany international Meyer arrived at Selhurst Park this summer on a free transfer after his contract at Schalke expired and his signing was seen a real coup for the Eagles, who beat a number of clubs to the midfielder’s signature.
However, the 22-year-old will have to wait for his competitive debut after manager Roy Hodgson, who signed a new contract extension until 2020 on Friday, confirmed the new arrival is not up to full speed just yet.
A post on Palace’s official Twitter account read: ‘Max is naturally fit and in great condition, but he hasn’t played since April. He needs a bit more work before he’s ready to play.’
Hodgson has also confirmed defender Scott Dann, striker Connor Wickham and midfielder Jonny Williams will not be available for selection as they continue to make their way back to full fitness.
He added: ‘There are no significant new injuries ahead of Fulham. Dann is working hard but remains sidelined and slight strains will keep Wickham and Williams out for the game.’
New summer signings Cheikhou Kouyate and Jordan Ayew are in line to start after arriving from West Ham United and Swansea City respectively.
