Bettinelli’s focus back on Fulham after England experience
Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli is determined to make sure his first senior England call-up will not be a one-off experience.
The 26-year-old earned a first senior international call-up for the Nations League match against Spain at Wembley and friendly with Switzerland in Leicester after Gareth Southgate decided he wanted a fourth goalkeeper in his Three Lions squad.
‘The only way you get into the England team is by playing well and playing regularly and doing your job,’ Bettinelli said on fulhamfctv.
‘He (England manager Gareth Southgate) has obviously seen something in me to call me up, so my job now is to come back here and do my best for Fulham. Focus on Fulham first, that’s my main call.’
Bettinelli, who came through Fulham‘s youth system, made one appearance for England at Under-21 level in 2015.
After waiting until December for his first start of Fulham‘s previous campaign, the goalkeeper excelled as Slavisa Jokanovic’s side earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
He added: ‘Hopefully if I keep on doing the right things here, playing under this manager with the way we play, then I’m sure I’ll be back in amongst it (England squad) sometime soon.’
