Kepa not certain to start – Sarri
Maurizio Sarri says he is yet to decide whether Kepa Arrizabalaga will make his Chelsea debut at Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Spain international Kepa joined the Blues from Athletic Bilbao this summer for £72.1million – a world-record fee for a goalkeeper – and many thought he would be guaranteed to make his Premier League debut at the John Smith’s Stadium.
However, Sarri was asked about whether the 23-year-old would be given the nod for the Terriers clash and the new man in charge admitted he is ‘undecided yet on whether Kepa will start tomorrow’.
If Kepa was overlooked for the Yorkshire trip, that would leave Willy Caballero, who started the 2-0 Community Shield defeat to Manchester City, and Robert Green fighting for the number one jersey.
Sarri also revealed Cesar Azpilicueta, who has been at Stamford Bridge since 2012, is likely to be handed the captain’s armband for the match.
He said at Friday’s press conference: ‘For tomorrow I think Azpilicueta, but it’s not the final decision. I want to know well the players, I want to know well the men, and when my idea [is] clear I will make a decision.’
Mateo Kovacic, who arrived from Real Madrid on a season-long loan is expected to be involved in the match-day squad, although it is unclear whether he will be handed a starting spot.
