Erik Durm will miss Huddersfield Town’s Premier League opener against Chelsea on Saturday as he builds up his match fitness.

The World Cup winner joined Town on a one-year deal last month but has been dogged by injuries in the past two years.

Durm got 16 minutes of action off the bench in Town’s 3-0 pre-season win over RB Leipzig last week but the club are treading very carefully and won’t reintroduce him to competitive action before he’s fully ready.

Terriers boss David Wagner confirmed that only Durm, fellow new signing Juninho Bacuna and Danny Williams are definitely out of Saturday’s game against the FA Cup holders.

US international midfielder Williams was ruled out for the rest of the season when he broke his distal fibula in training last March.

Bacuna, signed from Groningen earlier this summer, caught the eye in his pre-season appearances but the 20-year-old midfielder has sustained an untimely knock on the eve of the Premier League campaign.
