Nigeria coach wants duo to leave on loan

Leicester City

Nigeria boss Gernot Rohr says Leicester's Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho should leave on loan to boost their World Cup hopes.

Both Musa and Iheanacho have struggled for regular action at the King Power Stadium in the first half of the season, with striker Iheanacho making just 12 appearances in all competitions and Musa playing just five times.

With the World Cup in Russia now coming into view, both will hope to be part of Rohr’s plans for the tournament but the Super Eagles coach has urged them to seek moves away this month so they are playing regularly.

“My plan is to execute the World Cup with the players who are playing regularly with their respective clubs,” Rohr told SuperSport.

“How do you expect a coach to jet out to Russia with average players who lack playing time?

He continued: “I’m sad the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa lack playing time at Leicester City. I and my scouts took time to pay their coach a visit, but we realise their case are getting worse.

“I expect these players who are not playing regularly, especially Musa and Iheanacho, to get another club in the same league or elsewhere.”

Iheanacho’s potential availability is bound to alert several Premier League sides who are after a goalscorer, with West Brom, Newcastle, West Ham and Stoke all being linked, while Musa has been targeted by Turkish side Bursaspor recently.
