Reds to miss out on striker

Spurs are tipped to beat off rivals Liverpool for the services of Ipswich youngster Connor Wickham in the summer.

The 17-year-old has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation over the past 12 months but reports now suggest that Spurs are leading the race for the front man, who netted a hat-trick against Doncaster on Tuesday.

Liverpool were also thought to be keen, but after netting Andy Carroll in January, their interest may well have cooled in the player who is valued at around £15m.

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell says that the 6ft 3in 14st attacker is just “getting on with the job, he told the Mirror: “He can go all the way in the game as he’s got all the tools of the trade in his box.

“Connor handles all the speculation surrounding him well.

“He’s a mature lad and has got his feet on the ground.”
